Dr Elias Mercer and his team of revolutionaries keep on recieving refugees who escape the simualtion pods, and make their way to their safe house, however all that Elias has on his mind is how he is going to save his children. His wife Serafina is with him now, and carrying out her own work with those who arrive in need, but he is willing to give them all up in order to save Anais and Mateo. He knows where they are, and finds out that his daughter is as strong as he is, and doing her own part to free people from the simulation pods, but Mateo is still just surviving in oblivion. The team are forced to work with Director Leila Navarro, the woman who had put Elias in a pod, but who seems to be changing her tune now. They also go after freeing Ji-Won, the young genius from Seoul, who is being kept prisoner by Nadine Okaye, the unscrupulous, cold and calculating woman who just uses people as subjects for study, and data collection. They all realise they have to break out of where they are staying and go off grid and try to survive in places where the nuclear winter had least impact. Can Elias and his team which was forever growing survive by starting anew, working with nature rather than technology? Can't wait to read the next book which probably will bring the team to living back to basics.
Newcomers show up at their refuge with news of where Anais, Elias and Seraphina's daughter, is. The supplies will only go so far; they need to find a permanent, sustainable location
