She too takes on her role of first lady seriously, however she starts feeling the distance growing between them. David finds himself even unable to fit in his usual time for prayer and communing with God. He feels as though he is carrying all the weight of the country by himself, even when surrounded by his people. In this very powerful book we get to see David as the human being he is, vulnerable, and in his vulnerability instead of getting closer to both his wife and his god he turns to someone else. I really enjoyed this book, it is gratifying to see that even one as staunch a believer as David Sheperd could fall from grace, this gives us mortals hope! However will he be able to handle the responsibilities of a second term in office and to save his marriage, when his nemesis Everest is planning to defeat him, and a new interest is so close to him? I cannot wait for the next book in this series, as things are really getting interesting!
