A catastrophic plane crash. A miraculous survival.
Landon is hailed a hero, the man who defied impossible odds.
But the spotlight's glare reveals a darker truth.
When he defends the possessed flight attendant, accusations fly: murderer, manipulator, a pawn in a sinister game.
The allure of fame twists into a demonic snare, and the very system meant to uphold justice becomes his battleground.
Can Landon fight the forces that seek to destroy him, when the world itself has turned against him?
Mortal Coil is the third book in The Unfallen: a fast-paced, action-packed Christian suspense series. Fans of novels by Frank Peretti, like This Present Darkness, or fans of Terry Pratchett's and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens, will fall in love with Landon Walker. An on-the-edge-of-your-seat redemption story.

Sarah has gone to college as she has always wanted but it is unsettling in ways she had not expected. Landon is contacted by a professor from his old college to complete his degree. He decides to take the three courses needed on line. What they don't realize is that literally all Hell is going to break loose when Landon goes to visit Sarah. I found that the fact that this review was submitted on Pentecost is very apropos to the story line as God gives us guidance through the Holy Spirit.
No matter what is thrown at Sarah and Langdon, they always find themselves choosing the light. Even when temptation comes they find their way back to the light, back to where they belong. Not by themselves, but with the help of others. This is a unique way of helping us understand things that we question or just don’t believe. Well written in an easy flowing manner with great mastery of storytelling!
Oooo was I looking forward to this book! This series has totally captured me. Here's this guy who has no idea who he is, he has "things" after him, there's a miracle performed, there's a woman who believes in him AND there's angels and demons? Yep, what's NOT captivating! After discovering some... unusual truths, Landon and Sarah set off to uncover the truth and good golly were they thwarted every step of the way! Exciting doesn't even begin to cover this book or series, exhilarating is more apt. And this book starts off on a high note for any adrenaline junkie, a plane is on it's way down... to crash.... Oh my word, I know I said adrenaline pumping but good golly, when THAT happened to Landon, I squealed, REALLY squealed! A good something happened, an awesome something happened.... and then it all unravelled....
This author has taken a thriller, a mystery, the Divine, good vs evil to a new height, not only in deeds, in faith itself, presenting a wonderful thrilling story to accompany the religious aspects. What is good? What is evil? Landon, not remembering a thing of who and what he is, goes by gut feels. The author showcases the conundrum to perfection, Landon's conflicting thoughts, Sarah's unfailing faith in God and Landon, Zacharias, a voice of reason and scripture offers sage advice. How true these words are "The enemy is cunning, he doesn't always appear with horns and a pitchfork. Sometimes he comes bearing gifts - fame, influence, adoration". Seeing Landon navigate these dangerous waters, or try to, was an incredible journey. His character resonated with realism, faith, doubt, uncertainty and Sarah, well, now she's the strongest of the strong, not only in her faith, in her conviction too. These two, met by chance, or was it divine intervention? These two, who develop strong feelings for one another, have grown throughout the series, steadily, magnificently, each action and thought bringing them more and more onto a path that's so convoluted. Yet one can't help but be aware, the hand of God is steering them, keeping them safe, keeping the evil at bay. And goodness me, one can't get more evil than Lucifer himself, who, for some reason, needs Sarah....
The author's storytelling and prose is amazingly vivid, extremely compelling and very proficiently penned. Even a simple interview with a journalist has strength, we all know how ruthless reporters can be, like this very apt phrase "she worked like an assassin, every lick of her mouth was like a knife, every subtle bat of the eye like poison" The action, the realness to the story is pulse racing, provocative and edge of seat dramatic. Shoo, at times I felt as though I was in a butter churn being mulled over and over again. But the thread of love is constant, one of hope, of God's blessings and I'm not ashamed to say I cried real tears whenever these scenes came about, the spark they caused grew into an inferno, the sheer emotional faith and hope resonated through every pore, seeping deeply into my bones. Tense, uplifting, dramatic, insightful, empowering, extremely powerful story that I sure as heck felt like bursting out in song by the end of this book, my own faith strengthened.
The plot becomes more complicated for Landon. He performs a heroic act—but is he a hero, and who orchestrated this?
Lots of action and introspective messages. In the prior two volumes, Sarah has become a friend, confidante, confessor, and the voice of reason (whether Landon listens or not). Here, she seems to be taking an even more prevalent role.
Love the characters, the message, and the thought-provoking nature of how do we do good—and what makes us good?
You don't need to be religious to understand and consider the core questions presented.
Landon and Sarah are on their way back to the US after battling demons in the Vatican, however it seems the demons' agenda was not yet complete. A darkness engulfs the plane they are on, as it starts to fall, Landon fears for Sarah, however when a voice tells him to save them all he realises he has to leave her side and try to stop the plane from crashing. He is called a hero, however when journalists try to make a big hit out of his story, Landon likes the popularity, and even when Sarah reminds him who the real hero of this tale is, he allows himself to seek the glory and fame until it all goes wrong. People are so fickle and the media so manipulative especially when the devil is pulling the strings. Landon is battling both light and dark forces within himself, he is still searching for who he really is and is full of doubts as to his goodness, yet Sarah never wavers. Her faith is steadfast, even when facing off with Lucifer himself. This dark christian thriller is full of excitement, which kept me turning the pages, fearing for both their lives as the devil knows how to use his words to make them bow to his will. Sarah seems to be the stronger of the two where their faith is concerned, however Landon is well on his way with her to support him!
