Elias got everything he ever wanted. That's when he knew he was in hell.
After an accident and a two-year coma, agnostic engineer Elias awakens to find his family alive and a world finally at peace. Grateful for his recovery, he even finds himself open to faith—a spiritual transformation that would have been impossible before.
But as perfect happiness begins to feel like a prison, a mysterious priest warns him of a terrible truth: This isn't the real world at all.
His family are beautiful lies, AI constructs designed to make him "happy" while the world recovers from nuclear fallout.
But where is his real family? Did they survive the accident that put him in a coma? Are they out there somewhere in a war-torn reality?
Now, Elias faces an impossible choice: remain in blissful deception with the artificial souls he's grown to love, or risk everything in an unlikely hope that his real family is still alive
But if he's "unplugged," he might not wake up at all.
To save those he loves, he must first be willing to die.
Nexus Dei launches a riveting new series exploring faith, sacrifice, and the ultimate questions: What does it mean to be human? Can we really save ourselves? Can we truly love without sacrifice?
Fans of Judah Lamb's The Unfallen series will love this new Christian dystopian and post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller. It's perfect for readers who loved The Matrix, Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness, and Ready Player One.
Sometimes the greatest act of love is letting go of a beautiful lie.

This is an amazing first book in a new series and it is so relevant to our times it terrified me. This is the story of Elias who is a brilliant scientist carrying out research to further the AI world. He seems to be reaching a breakthrough when he meets a new Korean student who is even more brilliant than him. However when they work on the breakthrough all hell is let loose. Elias is married to a catholic woman Serafina, who has great faith and puts God before science but Elias is a true agnostic. An accident happens and when Elias comes out of his coma he is told he has been unconscious for two years, and when released from hospital he notices how different the world had become. But everything was so picture perfect he started questioning, and being the great scientist that he was he started to figure out he was living a lie.The scary bit is that maybe we are all already living in a simulated reality, that the AI we have created are already becoming more powerful and more intelligent than us, and we are all risking losing our humanity. It's funny how one is depicted as turning to God when fearing their death, however, I love were this series is going and cannot wait to go on reading
What does it mean to be human? Is perfection really what we seek?
These questions are addressed well in this start to a series set in a post-apocalyptic, AI-saturated world. I look forward to the continuation of this series.
PS - Don't ask the book's AI! Read the book for yourself; it will be worth the time.
